Circus Alphabet S1407: CTMH July Stamp of the Month Australasian Blog Hop

Hello and welcome aboard our CTMH July Stamp of the Month Australasian Blog Hop. If you have arrived here from Patricia Manhire's Blog, Creative Corner then you are in the right place. If you landed here by accident, no problem, please join in by following the link at the end of this post.

Today I would like to share with you this "PARTY Owls" Pop-up Birthday Card which features the July Stamp of the Month 'Circus Alphabet' available exclusively throughout July 2014 for $24 or for just $5 when you spend $75.

Since the moment I set eyes on this gorgeous 'Circus Alphabet' stamp set I couldn't wait to use it!  I knew my first project using this stamp set was going to be bright, colourful and super fun, and what says fun more that a pop-up card! I was inspired to create this card by one of my team members, Karen Kaden, who taught us the basics of a pop-up card at our last Team Play Day.  I took her ideas and changed it up to create this cute child's birthday card with a surprise pop-up element hidden inside.

The front of the card was created using a 4" x 5 1/4" piece of Pear Cardstock that I embossed using the CTMH Quatrefoil Embossing Folder.  I stuck this onto the front of a white card base from the White Cards and Envelopes Value Pack, leaving a small margin of white around the outside edge.

The featured stamps on the front of the card include the Balloons Mini stamp which I stamped in Archival Black Ink and coloured with the CTMH Alcohol Markers; the square border stamp from the Lollydoodle WotG Cardmaking Kit stamped in Cocoa Ink on a 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" square piece of White Daisy Cardstock, the branch stamp from the Lollydoodle WotG Cardmaking Kit stamped in Dessert Sand Ink, and the Owl stamp from the Lollydoodle WotG Cardmaking Kit stamped in Sorbet Ink.

The Owl stamp was cut out using the Non-Stick Micro-Tip Scissors and mounted using 3D Foam Tape as were the balloons.

The inside of the card has a number of different layers and features.  I used the banner stamp from the now retired Tommy WotG Scrapbooking Kit and 'curved' it on the 2" x 6.5" My Acrylix Block to fit across the top of the card. I stamped it in Cocoa Ink. I just love that we can bend and curve our stamps to create shapes that suit the purpose of the project we are working on.  Although I used the banner stamp for my project, you could use any long, thin stamp that you have in your collection or simply draw a hand-drawn line for the pennants to "hang on" to create the party banner.

If you are interested in finding out more about how you can manipulate our My Acrylix Stamps by curving and bending them, check out this great video, Clearly the Best: Bend It, Curve It, Stamp It from 2012 that explains the concept brilliantly.

The pennants for the "Party" Banner was adhered directly onto the card using Tombow Adhesive.  The pennants were created from strips of card stock (Sorbet, Cotton Candy, Honey, Pear and Lagoon) and stamped in Cocoa Ink with letters from the 'Circus Alphabet' July SotM.

The three "Party Owls" were stamped in Lagoon, Pear and Hollyhock Ink and then cut out.  They were mounted using a 3.5" x 1/2" strip of White Daisy Cardstock that was folded into a square (see below for a side-view) and then stuck behind the owl and then onto the fold in the card base on two sides (back and bottom) using the Bonding Memories Glue Pen.  This folded square allows the owls to "pop-up" when the card is opened but to lie flat when it is closed.  The balloons were stamped using Archival Black Ink, coloured in with CTMH Alcohol Markers, cut out and then adhered to the back of the middle owl using Memory Book Mini Glue Dots.

The Happy Birthday sentiment was stamped using the Cocoa Exclusive Inks Stamp Pad.
